Episode 06 - Stories of Awkward Situations

Topics: Have you ever found yourself in a awkward situation? Has something weird or strange happened to you unexpectedly? Well that is what this episode is all about. Some friends have allowed me to share some of the funny and strange things that have happened to them.

Story 1: is about an experience Rebecca had where she ended up walking into a Scientology Center. Story 2: is about Joel's experience with a crazy dude on the public transportation. Story 3: is about Jayson getting his first and only tattoo. And then I ramble for several minutes at the end...

Sorry about the static noise in the background. I tried to clean it up as best as I could. I have a new computer and am still trying to figure out how to hook everything up correctly to Windows Vista.

Sorry for the break.

I have taken on too many projects lately so it has been a while since we've posted an episode. Thanks to all who have contacted us to let us know that you are looking forward to another show. We actually had an All Saint's Day episode recorded, but I apparently hadn't gotten it edited and posted. So our next show will be the missing All Saint's/All Soul's Day episode. There also is another Catholic Mixtape episode in the works. If you don't like rap music -- tough! : )

Episode 05 - Mary: Mother of Us All

Topics: Sorry it's been so long! And sorry for the poor sound quality. I'm working out the kinks in my new equipment. I also apologize for having to rename the files so you may get the earlier episodes again. The Linux users were getting on me about my long file names. I figured now was better than later to go back and change the earlier shows.

This episode is about Mary and her roll in salvation history. Mary is the spiritual mother of all Christians (whether they want to acknowledge her or not). We hear from Fr. Stephen of St. Mary's in Wooster, Ohio, who was our guest speaker at our last Generations of Faith night. Fr. Vince then follows with a few words and the magnificat, which comes from the Gospel of Luke. The blog of the week is also about Mary and comes from a Lutheran Pastor named Jim. We also talk little bit about Adriana's Baptism and about some changes we will be making to the show.

Episode 04 - "Getting to Know Us"

Topics: Well, you asked for it... This episode is the "Getting to Know Us" show; where we talk about ourselves: What's been happening in our lives, The answers to your Questions (sort of), Choosing god-parents for our little Adriana (baby girl), our cousin is engaged!, and Shanon shares her journey of faith. We plan to make "Getting to Know Us" a normal segment on our show so keep sending us your questions. You can e-mail them to us, Skype us (if it is working properly), or write your question on a recipe card and tie it to a balloons and hope we get it, or if you live in Canada you can simply place it in a bottle and drop it into Lake Erie, or you can record it in a mp3 file and e-mail it to us. In this episode of The Perseverance Podcast we probably give away too much of the movie; but then again we ramble on for so long that you won't remember what we said anyway :)

More importantly, we talk about a couple good organizations that advertise before the movies begin. No, it is not Planned Parenthood, although they also advertise to moviegoers :(

Episode 02 - Catholic Mixtape vol. 1

Topics: When you think of Hip-Hop, the word Catholic probably doesn't come to mind. But I'm here to give you a sample of just that. Catholic-Christian rap that is so amazing that you should go out and buy one or two of these guys' albums.

We've all heard or perhaps even used the cliché, "I only listen to it for the beat", when it comes to questionable music. I challenge you to put these beats, these lyrics, up against any Rapper you see on BET, MTV, or any other corporate network telling you what to listen to. Be unique; Be yourself; Be Bold; Live out your Catholic faith (not just on Sundays or when you're with your moms, but when you're with your friends or when you're at work. This is not always easy. Before you get out of bed each day, say a little prayer to the One who made you, and dedicate your day to doing His will. I have come to realize that people secretly respect those who stand up for their beliefs, especially when it could cost you popularity points. Why do you think Napoleon Dynamite was such a big hit? He danced in front of the entire school for a friend (now granted one could argue that Napoleon had no popularity points to loose...but the point is that he chose to sacrifice what is cool for the sake of a friend). The irony is that the uncool becomes cool in a weird sense.

If you live your life with Christ, many of the pressures that plague so many young people these days, can hold no power over you. So it is my prayer that you are inspired not only by the beats and the lyrics that these guys bring, but by the One who inspires them. Amen.
